MCALLEN – The owner of a Rio Grande Valley Construction Company accused of theft is facing additional charges.

Alejandra Melendez was charged Monday with two additional charges of theft after surrendering to authorities.

Her mother, Adelina Briseno, was arrested in April and was arraigned earlier this month.

The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office into Briseno Construction. The investigation started in October 2016.

The sheriff’s office said customers reported paying big money to Briseno Construction for new homes. They said the company kept the cash and never completed the work on their homes.

The Texas Attorney General's Office told CHANNEL 5 NEWS 128 complaints were filed against the company.

On Oct. 19, Adelina Briseno was charged with felony theft charges in connection to the construction company. She's been in custody since September.

Melendez was given a surety bond of $40,000 and was committed to the Hidalgo County Detention Center.

Her pretrial hearing is scheduled for November.
