PALMVIEW - Construction crews continue to work on a main ruptured gas line in Palmview.

Police said evacuated residents can head back home.

Texas Gas Service said they've shut off gas in the area, leaving close to 60 residents without gas service.

The company's spokesperson, Christy Penders, said a contractor working on La Homa Road hit a gas line around 2 p.m.on Monday.

Police then issued a mandatory evacuation for residents living half a mile east and west of La Homa Road and up to about half a mile north of  FM 495. Drivers were also being asked to avoid the road.

Palmview Police Cpt. Saul Ulloa spoke to CHANNEL 5 NEWS after a command center was set up near the scene.

"Crews were working in the area; they were not excavating. They were moving heavy equipment along the area when the road caved in, and that's when they noticed the gas was seeping out," he said.

Multiple Palmview agencies including the Texas Department of Transportation and DPS responded to the incident.

No injuries were reported.

Texas Gas Service said it will take a while to repair the pipe. They added it will be some time until the 60 residents can get the service back.
