WESLACO - Texas health officials confirmed Tuesday the first case of localized Zika in a pregnant woman.

The state believes she became infected in Brownsville. So far, Cameron County has six localized cases of the Zika virus.

The Department of State Health Services reported the Bexar County resident visited the city back in November.

Officials said they’re unsure on how she became infected. They said it could have been through a mosquito or by sexual contact.

The CDC has designated Brownsville as a Zika precautionary zone.  They warned pregnant women to avoid traveling to the area.

Health officials encourage people to also protect themselves against sexual transmission from partners who travel to or live in the city.

Anyone visiting the city of Brownsville should wear mosquito repellant for protection.
