WESLACO - President Trump’s is moving forward on the promises he made to supporters on the campaign trail.

During his presidential campaign, Trump laid out his 10-point plan on immigration.

President Trump’s executive order plans to initiate the construction of a border wall and end sanctuary cities. His executive order on sanctuary cities will strip them from funding.

His second move is to end catch-and-release. It means anyone who illegally crosses the border will be detained until they are removed out of the country. Currently, people are detained, released and given a date to return to immigration court.

President Trump’s plan also aims to move criminal aliens out in joint operation with local, state and federal law enforcement. He planned to make that happen on his first day in office, but that did not happen.

The plan states the administration will ensure that other countries take their people back when they are deported.

Trump’s plan also aims to terminate President Obama’s executive amnesties on immigration. It also said the administration will triple the number of ICE agents.

The plan also intends to suspend visas to any place where vetting is not trusted. While it was not a part of the president’s executive order, Trump is expected to order a ban on visas to Lybia, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Iraq and Iran.

Another part of the plan regarding visas is to ensure that a biometric entry-exit visa tracking system is fully implemented at land, air and sea ports.

Trump is also seeking to “turn off the jobs and benefits magnet”, saying many immigrants come to the U.S. illegally in search of jobs even though federal law prohibits the employment of illegal immigrants.

The last goal outlined in the plan looks to reform legal immigration.
