RAYMONDVILLE – A Raymondville restaurant owner says workers of a newly reopened detention center are saving his business.

Manuel Zavala says summer is a slow season for his industry. He says it’s been especially slow in the last three years since a riot shut down a prison facility in his town.

Since El Valle Detention Center reopened last month, he says security staff trainees and other workers who break for lunch go to his place and eat.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey reached out to the owner of the facility, Management Training and Corporation, to learn more on how their numbers might benefit nearby businesses.
