SAN BENITO - San Benito city officials are in the process of paying back the city of Harlingen for water used during a water plant failure.

The incident happened during freezing weather last month. Low temperatures caused water pressure monitoring equipment at water plant No. 1 to fail.

The failure caused water pressure to fall below state level standards. San Benito had to connect to Harlingen’s system in order to get water to its residents.

The city will pay more than $11,000 for the 3.4 million gallons of water it used.
