MISSION – A local unaccompanied veteran was laid to rest with full military honors Wednesday.

Retired U.S. Air Force Technical Sgt. Lee Elliot Doan was laid to rest at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery.

His friends and family could not be found in the community that gathered; around 50 people attended the services.

Doan served for over 20 years.

KRGV's Cecilia Gutierrez spoke with one attendee who never met Doan but says she felt a connection when she found out about him.

"We get so busy and we forget 'cause you know life happens, and then all of a sudden when something like this happens, you say wait a minute, I have to take the time to do this," says Rachel Welliver.
