San Benito Robbery Suspect Arrested

UPDATE (2/23): Police said Eric Gonzalez, suspect wanted in a daylight robbery of a San Benito restaurant over the weekend, is behind bars.

Gonzalez robbed Taco Jardin on Stenger and Biddle Street on Sunday.

He was arraigned Thursday and had his bond set at $75,000.

SAN BENITO - The San Benito Police Department is looking for a robbery suspect. The robbery happened Sunday morning at El Taco Jardin, located at the corner of Stenger Street and Biddle Street.

The San Benito Police Department identified the suspect as Eric Gonzalez. According to police, he assaulted an employee and reached into the register, taking an unknown amount of cash.

Police said several store patrons ran after him, as he fled to a nearby neighborhood. Officers added the suspect was last seen getting into an older model black Ford Expedition that headed toward Harlingen.

Officers got a warrant for Gonzalez's arrest. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the San Benito Police Department at (956) 361-3880.
