Spring Break Travelers Urged to Take Caution While Traveling to Mexico

PROGRESO- Despite the recent fatal shooting of an American in Mexico, one spring breaker is looking forward to crossing the border for vacation.

Vicente Reyna is a student at UTRGV.

He said he and his friends aren't aware of where they can read up about safety and danger in Tamaulipas.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to DPS to ask law enforcement about travel preparations.

Spokesperson Lt. Johnny Hernandez said travelers should check the federal government's travel advisory page.

The U.S. State Department rates Mexico as a level two risk, meaning to exercise extreme caution.

It also advises against all travel to Tamaulipas, due to crime.
