Teen arrested in connection with threat written threat against Weslaco High School, police say

A 16-year-old male teen was arrested Monday after police say he wrote threatening messages in the bathroom walls at Weslaco High School, according to the Weslaco Police Department.

The threatening message was on a wall on school grounds, according to a Friday news release from police.

Police were able to identify and detain the 16-year-old responsible for the threatening message, whose identity will not be released, police said

Weslaco police are asking parents to talk to their kids about the consequences of making threats.

"Weslaco, Texas: On Friday, April 14th, 2023, at approximately 1:06 pm, Weslaco Police School Resource Officers assigned to Weslaco High School Campus, located at 1005 W. Pike Street, Weslaco, were informed of a terroristic threat written on a wall. The Weslaco Independent School District (WISD) worked closely with the Weslaco Police Department to conduct a thorough criminal investigation and identify a person of interest.

Today, Monday, April 17th, 2023, at approximately 1:03 pm, the Weslaco Police Department has successfully detained the individual responsible for the threatening messages on the school restroom walls. The person detained is a 16-year-old male juvenile, and his identity will not be released as per state law.

The Weslaco Police Department would like to encourage parents, teachers, and friends to speak with their children about the severe consequences of writing threatening messages on school walls or through social media. No matter how minor it may seem, every threat will be taken seriously, and we will thoroughly investigate every incident to ensure the safety of all children.

The Weslaco Police Department remains committed to the safety of all children in the community, and we will continue to work closely with the Weslaco Independent School District to maintain a safe learning environment for students.
