EDINBURG - The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a Cameron County inmate.

Authorities say the inmate died at the hospital Tuesday morning.

According to Cameron County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chief, Gus Reyna, Justice of the Peace Jonathan Garcia was called to confirm the death.

This is the third incident involving the death of an inmate at the Carrizales-Rucker Cameron County Detention Center in four years.

In one case, the county agreed to pay the family of Fernando Longoria a million dollars.

Longoria died while in solitary confinement in 2015.

The settlement was reached in April of last year after a lawsuit was filed in federal court.

An inspection of the jail was held earlier this year.

The Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center passed the inspection, earning a compliance standard.

An autopsy of the inmate was ordered.
