NEAR FALFURRIAS – High-tech water delivery equipment will soon be available in certain areas of Brooks County.

The South Texas Human Rights Center has been setting up barrels of water for migrants who are walking through the area for years.

New barrels will have solar panels and remote technology to alert the center when migrants draw water from the barrels.

"It does give us a challenge. I want to place them where there's high traffic, in remote dense areas where Border Patrol doesn't really have access. I want to maximize the use of it. It takes a little research and a lot of connections with ranchers,” explains Eddie Canales of the South Texas Human Rights Center.

Several universities have partnered in designing those new barrels. He says they expect to start putting these out this month.
