Weslaco ISD Students in Extracurricular Activities Subject to Random Drug Tests

WESLACO – The Weslaco Independent School District says a new drug policy will be implemented in their campuses this school year.

Every student with a parking permit and those involved in any extracurricular activities will now be subject to random drug testing.

Weslaco ISD officials tell CHANNEL 5 NEWS parents of students in 7th to 11th grade have to agree if their children want to participate in after-school activities.

KRGV’s Taylor Winkel reached out to the Texas Education Agency about the program. The agency says there are no state guidelines and it’s up to each district to decide what they want to do.
