Immigration non-profit seek Giving Tuesday donations to prepare for tent courts reopening

Related Story

Giving Tuesday is known as a global generosity movement that gives people the opportunity to uplift their community.

Non-Profit San Antonio Region Justice For Our Neighbors has removed immigration attorneys and volunteers from the Rio Grande Valley’s regional border tent courts due to COVID-19.

However, with a vaccine on the horizon they are asking for donations to support asylum seekers to prepare for the official reopening of the immigration tent courts along the southwest border.

“As you remember people that are in the MPP program who have been forced to remain in Mexico are maybe people who are a couple hearings into their asylum process," SARJFON Executive Director, Matt Lohmeier said. "When they get across the border it’s going to be chaos. Somebody who understands the system needs to be able to look at their paperwork and say ‘this is where you are at’."

The organization is also in need of volunteers to help with communication efforts between the U.S. and Mexico. If you would like to donate you can call at 877-727-5366 or visit https://www.sarjfon.org/get-involved/donate/
