New Mayor Elected for City of Edinburg

EDINBURG – Unofficial final results are being reported for many mayoral races across the Rio Grande Valley.
Incumbents in Donna, Edcouch and Edinburg lost mayoral seats.
In the days leading up to early voting, Donna’s mayoral race stroke up some controversy.
Precincts are reporting that the incumbent mayor, Irene Munoz, was defeated.
Rick Morales received 37 percent of the votes, Simon Sauceda with 24 percent, Ernesto Lugo also with 24 percent and Munoz received 15 percent.
In the mayor’s race in Edcouch, only one candidate was on the ballot.
Virgino Gonzalez Jr. ran unopposed and will take the Edcouch mayoral seat.
In Edinburg, two challengers joined the races against incumbent Mayor Richard H. Garcia.
When early voting results were released earlier, Richard Molina led the Edinburg mayor’s race with 55 percent.
With 100 percent now reporting, Molina will become mayor with 54 percent of the vote.
Garcia received 39 percent of the vote and Gina Marie Alamia received seven percent.
According to unofficial results in Los Fresnos, there will be no change in mayors.
Polo Narvaez has been reelected mayor of the city of Los Fresnos.
All numbers posted are unofficial numbers. Election officials have yet to provide a final canvass of votes.
