Texas Health Officials Confirm First Child Death of Flu Season
WESLACO - Texas Health officials confirmed the influenza associated death of a 5-year-old child from South Texas.
The State Health Department says the child did not get the flu shot this year.
Flu activity in Texas continues to rise and is at above-average level, per this week's Department of State Health Services.
Children, especially those aged 6 months to 5 years, are at high risk for serious flu-related complications including death.
Health officials say a flu shot is the best defense for children against the virus.
