EDINBURG – Three people were arrested in connection to the death of a 15-year-old girl, whose body was found near Edinburg.

The Hidalgo County’s Sheriff Office said 27-year-old Daniel Salazar is facing charges of criminal negligent homicide and sexual assault of a child.

Salazar’s sister, Irene Salazar, and the sister’s boyfriend, Eric Zamudio, were also charged. They are each facing a count of failing to report a felony.

Investigators said the 27-year-old man was communicating with Kassandra Ramirez, 15, on Facebook.

Ramirez was reported missing Wednesday night to San Juan police.  The teen’s body was found on Rooth Road, south of Chapin Road, on Friday morning.

The night the teen went missing multiple witnesses saw her get into a vehicle with the three suspects who were arrested.

Irene Salazar and Zamudio told investigators that Ramirez became visibly sick but Daniel Salazar refused to seek medical attention for her. They admitted to helping the 27-year-old get rid of the teen’s body.

Investigators said Daniel also admitted to sexually assaulting Ramirez before her death.

The sheriff’s office said the case is still under investigation. There could be more charges and more arrests to come.
