Aviation Expert Explains Procedures for Pilots Flying into US after Recent Smuggling Case

WESLACO – A pilot who is accused of flying people into the country illegally is out on bond.

He is accused of smuggling two Colombians in exchange for cash; his case has not gone to trial.  

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing spoke with aviation expert who has worked with aviation laws for 25 years and understands the procedure for pilots crossing borders.

Emilio Santos explains when a pilot lands in the U.S. from another country, he has to declare who and what is on board.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection must be notified an hour before arriving and the pilot must wait for a CBP officer before opening the plane.
