Brownsville man flees to Mexico after fatally shooting stepson, police say
The Brownsville Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a man accused of fatally shooting his stepson and fleeing to Mexico.
Juan Rodriguez Valencia, 74, shot his stepson after a dispute over money, according to a news release.

Police responded to the 1900 block of East Tyler Street where they found 51-year-old Alfredo Zapata with a gunshot wound to the right side of his head. Zapata was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Zapata’s mother told police Valencia shot his stepson after a dispute with money and presumably fled to Mexico, the release added.
Security camera footage captured Valencia crossing the international bridge into Matamoros.
