RIO GRANDE CITY – The owners of eight-liners in Starr County had their lawsuit tossed out on technicality.

The operators were seeking to recover taxes collected by the county since 2014, claiming they believed the ordinance was in conflict with state law.

Starr County Judge Eloy Vera said he was relieved the lawsuit was dismissed due to a mistake in procedure.

Vela said if the courts had ruled in favor of the operators, the county could have been ordered to pay back close to $2 million.
