RAYMONDVILLE – A Raymondville business owner is expecting his shop to boom once a new contract is signed at a nearby prison.

Daniel Hernandez says business was good for six years until the Willacy County prison shut down in 2015 as a result of a riot. He says many of his clients lost their jobs.

Raymondville mayor Gilbert Gonzalez tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS a contract is close to being signed and is expected to bring 50 to 75 jobs.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey contacted Management and Training Corporation, the company who bought the facility from the county.

Spokesperson Anita Arnita says they can’t comment on who they’re negotiating with and where the process stands.
