BROWNSVILLE – Recent traffic delays along Expressway 77 in Brownsville are concerning business owners in the area.

Restaurant manager Ulises Vasquez says sales are significantly down this week; his restaurant is located off the frontage road in Brownsville.

"It's affected us about 30% to 40% in restaurant sales, so it's affected us a lot," says Vasquez.

He says the construction on the Price Road ramp is causing a traffic jam and drivers are avoiding the area near his restaurant as a result.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the Texas Department of Transportation to find out what this construction is all about.

TxDOT spokesperson Octavio Saenz tells us crews are doing maintenance throughout the frontage roads.

He says they overlay the frontage roads every four years to keep them in good condition so drivers will stay safe.

Saenz says the work in Brownsville will continue for about two more weeks.
