CBP Program to Help With Cargo Increases at International Bridges

5 years 6 months 2 weeks ago Saturday, October 06 2018 Oct 6, 2018 October 06, 2018 5:30 PM October 06, 2018 in News

Record cargo numbers at international bridges have Customs and Border Protection personnel and infrastructure resources spread thin.

Over the past year, the increase has resulted in longer wait times and cargo back-ups.

According to CBP, the Reimbursable Service Program allows partnerships with government entities.

The program allows for additional inspection services upon the request of the stakeholder, which is the bridges in these cases.

Other services in the agreement include immigration, agricultural processing, border security and other costs such as salaries, benefits, overtime expenses and transportation costs.

The partnership is expected to come to Brownsville, Hidalgo and Rio Grande City.

There's no word on an exact start date.
