Child Exploitation Investigation Leads to Arrest of Harlingen Man

HARLINGEN – Authorities have finally released the name of the man who was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with a child exploitation investigation.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told CHANNEL 5 NEWS Skyler Tarr McElwrath was arrested at a home located on the 1900 block of Washington Avenue in Harlingen.

The complaint against McElwrath alleges that he received or distributed child pornography.

Several law enforcement agencies were on the scene including DHS, DHS’s Rio Grande Valley Child Exploitation Task Force and ATF.

Authorities said the Brownsville Police Department’s Bomb Squad was also called to the scene after Homeland Security Investigation special agents came across some powdery substance in the home.

Authorities said the substance was evaluated and deemed safe to be removed from the home.

That substance was later destroyed by the Brownsville police’s bomb squad.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS told no investigation into the substance is required.
