RIO HONDO – Another wind farm called Palmas Altas is under construction in Cameron County.

The Rio Hondo area will soon see 46 additional wind turbines, which will create enough energy to power 43,000 homes.

County officials say each turbine built means millions of dollars for the county and for landowners.

“Companies are able to generate constant electricity because of the constant wind that we see in South Texas, because of where we're at – the coast,” says Cameron County Administrator David Garcia.

Garcia explains an estimated $40 million will go to the county based on the assessment of the value of the property where the turbines are being built.
