SANTA ROSA - A Santa Rosa cotton farmer says his harvest is taking a hit from the recent flooding.

Cotton grower George Rodriguez says, since last week’s storms parts of his cotton field look more like swamps.

Just last month, Rodriguez told us he was prepared for a successful harvest.

However last week's floods left his crops damaged.

"That's what hurt us, that rain. It was just too much and most of the fields got very flooded," says Rodriguez.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to Webb Wallace, a crop consultant, in Sebastian.

He says cotton crops throughout Willacy County have also been damaged by flooding.

Wallace says a lot of that cotton is underwater and probably ruined and at least ten percent of the harvest this year is going to be destroyed.

For now, Rodriguez says he just hopes he can make it through this harvest season without any more major problems.
