BROWNSVILLE – Doctors successfully removed a bullet lodged in back of a young child from Cameron County. It’s now being sent for testing.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported a 2-year-old boy was hit by celebratory gunfire shortly after midnight New Year’s Day.

The toddler was hit in the back while playing on his front porch. His family rushed him to the hospital.

On Monday, doctors were able to safely remove the round. They’ve sent the bullet off for testing to try to determine what weapon it was fired from.

Doctors say the little boy will be okay.
