DONNA – Some Rio Grande Valley residents are begging county officials to clean up the mess they created.

Victor Soria told CHANNEL 5 NEWS Hidalgo County Precinct 1 maintenance crews left a mess after cleaning out the ditches near his home.

"A whole bunch of junk and grass on the floor, in the middle of the street," said Soria. "There's garbage bags there's everything.''

CHANNEL 5 NEWS discovered mowed grass, bits of trash and other debris lying on mile 9 1/2 Road in Donna.

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 maintenance crews left behind the debris Wednesday morning after cleaning out the ditches. The debris was spread along nearly the entire length of the road.

"When are they going to come and clean it up," asked Soria. "I mean they had the chance today to come here and do their job. Do it right."

CHANNEL 5 NEWS returned later in the day and discovered the same scene. We reached out to Hidalgo County's Precinct 1 office for comment.

Spokesperson Pepe Cabeza de Vaca said in a statement:

Hidalgo County Pct. 1 is already assessing and working on the issue of 9 1/2 and Victoria.

Sadly residents use the county right of way as an illegal dumping site, due to high grass our drivers sometimes cannot see the illegal dumping while shredding.

Commissioner David Fuentes is committed to a better quality of life to all residents in Pct 1 and will send a crew to clean up the debris on this road by tomorrow.

"They're getting paid and everything. Why do it twice when you can do it once?" said Soria.

We'll be sure to update you as this story develops.
