Edinburg man charged with attacking pregnant woman, biting deputy
A 22-year-old Edinburg man remains behind bars after attacking a pregnant woman and biting a deputy, according to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office.
Bryan Vega was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Friday on charges of assault on a pregnant person, aggravated assault on a peace officer, and resisting arrest, jail records show.
According to a news release, Vega was arrested on Thursday morning after deputies with the sheriff’s office responded to an assault at the 4400 block of Energy Avenue.
Deputies were warned that the suspect — identified as Vega — was still at the scene and had a history of fleeing from law enforcement, the release added.
“When deputies attempted to detain him, [Vega] began actively resisting and pulling away,” the news release stated. “During the struggle, the suspect bit one of the deputies on the index finger."
After issuing verbal commands that Vega failed to comply with, deputies used a stun gun on him. Vega was subsequently arrested and medically evaluated.
Vega remains in custody on a $90,000 bond.
