Federal Gov’t Proposes Use of Cargo Containers to Stop Caravan

DONNA – The federal government says it’s preparing to use cargo containers at the international bridges if the need arises to keep people from coming into the U.S. illegally.

Weeks after thousands of troops arrived to set up camp, heavy equipment and containers were delivered to the Donna International Bridge.

During a visit from Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, the secretary of Homeland Security explained DHS is preparing several scenarios for crowd control at the bridges; such involves the use of cargo containers.

KRGV’s Christian von Preysing spoke with a Mission resident about these strategies.
