Ian Box is coming off a career high performance against the Houston Christian University Huskies with 5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss of 16 total yards. After a much needed bye week, he’s getting ready to face off against his former team.

“It's going to be cool to go back to my old spot and see it again and feel the nostalgia. I've been telling myself that it’s nothing new, it's just going to be another game for me. I'm not going to try to over think it or treat it like a revenge game. This is more of a redemption game for me just to show them what they missed out on.” says Defensive End Ian Box.

During his time at Lamar, Box suffered a grade three tear on his left a-c joint that caused him to miss more than half of the 2023 season.

“It came to the point where I was thinking I'm probably through with football but god blessed me, a miracle happened, somebody that i know and trust a head coach that i really would love to play for again became a head coach at a D1 university in the same conference. I hit him up and things worked out so it's all just been a blessing.”

“When I was still coaching high school I knew he wasn't happy over there in Lamar so excited for the opportunity to get him down here. Really just to see him progress and see him be a great player for us just proud of him and his efforts and happy things have worked out so far.” stated Head Football Coach Travis Bush.

The Cardinals are ranked top 18 in the AFCA coaches poll and are currently undefeated in conference play as well as on their home turf. box has full confidence the vaqueros can compete with them.

“For a first year team I think we’re special, I think we’re rare. I think we got more work to do. We really got to see how we stacked up against HCU and southeastern Louisiana. I think we stacked up well. I think we can play with these guys. I think we have a spot in this conference so I'm proud of us. I think we're going to fight and do our best and I think we can play with these guys.”
