Former Cameron Co. Sheriff has been Released from Prison
UPDATE (6/19): Former Cameron County Sheriff Conrado Cantu is now out of prison.
Cantu was released from a federal prison in Kentucky Tuesday night.
The ex-sheriff will be under house arrest for the remainder of his sentence.
He'll be living with his son in Corpus Christi.
Last year, President Donald Trump signed the First Step Act, which serves as a way for qualifying inmates to get out of federal prison early.
The act prompted the former sheriff’s early prison release.

BROWNSVILLE – A former Cameron County sheriff who plead guilty to racketeering will leave prison early.
Conrado Cantu will be allowed to serve the remainder of his prison sentence in Corpus Christi under home confinement.
He has about five years left.
Cantu plead guilty to racketeering charges in 2006.
The former sheriff requested early release through a federal program for qualified inmates older than the age of 60.
Cantu remains in custody.
