Hidalgo County launched a new online COVID-19 vaccine registration system, Tuesday morning.

Chief Administrative Officer for Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Eddie Olivarez said in a matter of minutes all 330 vaccines were accounted for.

"When you have electronic systems, they're going to get taken up very quickly," Olivarez said. "I know that's frustrating for some people."

Since there isn't a waiting list, those who could not register will have to check back for available doses.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, for the past three weeks the county's vaccine hubs have received 15,360 doses.

Olivarez said Hidalgo, Cameron and Webb County are considered priority counties, for vaccine shipments.

He said the demand for the vaccine is still outweighing the supply, but they're working to make vaccines available.

While the system is new tool the county will use to keep vaccinating the community, Olivarez said it isn't the only way residents can register.

If you don't have access to a computer or aren't tech savvy, Olivarez said you can call the county at (956) 383-6221.
