WESLACO – Local law enforcement is taking their active shooter training to area hospitals.

Border Patrol agents and Weslaco police officers visited Knapp Medical Center to teach medical employees how to better prepare for an active shooter situation.

Officials are encouraging the public to use the acronym “ADD”, Avoid, Deny and Defend, in emergencies like these.

They say people need to avoid the threat, deny access to the assailant(s) by hiding or getting away and defending themselves.

The hospital’s director says this is the first, but not last, law enforcement safety course they will host for employees.
