LA JOYA - The La Joya Housing Authority executive director, involved in a fraud investigation, was fired by the agency’s board.

Board chairwoman Frances Salinas De Leon said Juan Jose “JJ” Garza’s dismissal comes after he was charged earlier this year with conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

The now former executive director pled not guilty after being arrested in September.

Court documents states Garza and contractor Armando Jimenez submitted false bids to secure construction projects for the Donna and Alamo Housing Authorities back in 2012 and 2013.

The housing authority board suspended Garza about a month ago and appointed an interim executive director.

Garza is currently out on bond.
