PHARR – Preparations for hurricane season are being made by some Pharr residents; they want to make sure the city is doing the same.

Ricardo Rosales says last June, he felt like he failed in looking after his mother when he couldn’t save her from a flooded home.

"Firefighters had to take my mom out," he says.

Rosales says now he wants to make sure that never happens again.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to a city of Pharr engineer, Omar Anzaldua, about Rosales’ concerns.

Anzaldua tells us the streets are designed to keep the water flowing to existing drains.

He adds the city is looking to make improvements to some problem areas.

The city of Pharr’s guidelines say drainage placement should come every 300 to 600 feet.
