MISSION – Local growers are warning about a potential hike in the cost of citrus fruits.

A Mission citrus grower tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he decided to put up a shop to sell citrus products from his fields.

"The month of June and the month of September has been a challenge," says Mission citrus grower Norman Dudgeon. "Even right now there are fields that they were pumping water out of. Some of the other growers were pumping water out of their fields."

Dudgeon is unsure if he will have enough citrus to sell in his shop when it opens in about a month.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey reached out to President of Texas Citrus Mutual Dale Murden.

Murden explains many local citrus growers are not starting their harvest yet due to the wet grounds.

He adds the consumer demand will be there, so if there is not enough supply, the prices will increase.
