Local Red Cross Chapter Assisting in South Carolina Flood Recovery Efforts
HARLINGEN – Volunteers are being deployed as the Hurricane Florence recovery phase reaches its third week.
Red Cross South Texas Chapter says 50 Texas volunteers, including 15 from the Rio Grande Valley, are keeping busy passing out supplies and tending flood victims at shelters.
KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke with the organization’s executive director, Danella Hughes, about their efforts and why there’s a need for more volunteers.
“The devastation has impacted so many families. The anticipation of this recovery is going to take some time,” she says. “We know because we’re still recovering from Hurricane Harvey."
Other agencies like the Cajun Navy and Border Patrol assisted in search-and-rescue missions and providing security at emergency supply centers.
