PENITAS – One man is facing charges following a chase near Peñitas on Tuesday.

Rogelio Castillo, 21, of Alamo was arrested on suspicion of evading arrest with a motor vehicle and for possession of marijuana.

Sgt. Maria Montalvo, spokesperson for the Department of Public Safety, said at approximately 7:20 a.m., a state trooper attempted to stop a red Toyota Yaris traveling westbound on U.S. 83 for a traffic violation.

Castillo failed to yield and crashed into a palm tree, said Montalvo. He was taken to the local hospital and later transported to the Hidalgo County Jail.
