MCALLEN – A McAllen man is looking for answers after some of his money went missing from his Social Security account.

Phillip Garcia, a former construction worker, says he contacted Direct Express, a company that provides accounts for those who get paid through federal benefits, after noticing in September that $500 of his money was missing.

The company told him he could not prove it was fraud and asked him to file a second complaint. Since then, he’s spent the majority of time on hold.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas reached out to Direct Express with no luck.

We also found numerous complaints about the company on the Better Business Bureau’s website so we gave them a call.

Jarrod Wise, vice president of communications with BBB of South Texas, says they didn’t get a response from the company either. He recommends Garcia to contact the Attorney General’s Office.
