SOUTH PADRE ISLAND – A weekend on South Padre Island could have gone horribly wrong for a family if it weren’t for a first responder.

Steve Millon, a Harlingen firefighter, says his weekend was just beginning. For nine years, he’d put other’s lives before his own. His trip to the island this time would be no different.

Millon says a young teen was chocking and needed help fast. He says thanks to his firefighter training, he knew exactly what to do.

By properly performing the Heimlich maneuver, Millon saved the boy’s life.

He says the family was grateful for his quick actions that they offered to foot his bill.

Days later, Millon was awarded a plaque by his station for his heroic act.
