BROWNSVILLE – The Vikings are off to a good start in Coach Danny Pardo’s second season. Pace is on a five-game winning streak. All of them are district wins.

“It’s really exciting like all this off-season we were practicing and working out on our speed so it’s really exciting,” said senior running back Brandon Zapata.

The Vikings defense has played an important role in the team’s streak.

Although they’re undersized, they make up for it with their speed.

“We build on speed,” said Pardo. “We’re not the biggest, but we can get around. We fly to the ball. We depend on that a bit.”

“We just try to play physical football with speed,” said senior defensive back Hector Salazar. “That’s what we have.”

The Vikings will take on Lopez tomorrow. If they win, it would setup a clash with Mission Veterans for the top spot in district next week.

“Because of the history in the last couple of years and being in the mix is great,” said Pardo. “When we started last year, we made it to the playoffs and that was kind of like a big thing for us to get them going.”
