HIDALGO – The Lady Pirates are the lone Valley team left in the playoffs. They’ll play West Oso Tuesday, a team they lost to in overtime earlier this season.

Hidalgo’s team will get the Bears in La Feria for a neutral site, third round contest.

“West Oso has always been a basketball town,” said Hidalgo coach Saul Arjona. “They’re big and quick. I think we’re going to use our speed against them. They’re bigger than us and they know how to use the inside game.”

“We don’t stop running, we keep playing,” said junior post Barbara Gutierrez. “We keep passing the ball and just run to the basket. Also communicating really helps us a lot. I know Weslaco (last year) was the last team standing and it feels good saying now that’s us.”

“Hopefully we have a lot of supporters coming out here because we’re the last girls team standing in the Valley,” said senior guard Ashley Arjona. “Hopefully that helps us out having supporters out here and knowing we’ve played on this court during our district season. It could have a big impact on us.”

Tuesday night’s game tips off at 6pm on La Feria’s court. The winner advances to the 4A-Region IV tournament at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
