RGV Tours offering rides to Vaqueros first football away game
RGV Tours is offering bus rides to fans for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's first football away game.
The Vaqueros will be playing in Prairie View on Saturday, and Vaqueros fans will need to travel more than five hours to cheer on the Valley's team.
UTRGV student Zaida Valverde is among 20 students who won a bus trip to the historic game.
"I couldn't believe I won. I was just shocked. I thought we had a chance because not many people signed up," Valverde said.
Valverde missed out on UTRGV's first football game because tickets were sold out. Now, she has a history-making experience of her own.
"I kept telling my friend who did go to the first game that they are a part of history because that was the first game, but that was the first home game, so now I get to go to the first away game," Valverde said.
RGV Tours is behind the bus ride. Fifty people will board the fan bus to the game.
The charter bus agency plans to take fans to another away game this season. It will be when the Vaqueros take on LaMar University in Beaumont on October 18.
"Other places would take a little bit longer to travel. So we chose those two games, so that it could be a quick turnaround," RGV Tours owner Vicente Solar said.
The fan package includes a bus ride, a game ticket and a game day t-shirt.
RGV Tours hopes to expand the trips for UTRGV fans next season.
"Our plans for next season are maybe to do an overnight so we can have a hotel, and it would be a more comfortable ride for everybody, and hopefully go to every away game like we do with the Cowboys game tours," Solar said.
Valverde secured her spot with help from Vaquero Outfitters, who raffled off tickets. For the next home game, she says she will be ready to buy a ticket.
"I will be waiting by my phone at 7:30 in the morning or 8 am to roll around so I can get the tickets early on," Valverde said.
Bus tickets will go on sale again through RGV Tours October 18th for the Beaumont game. For more information, click here.
