HIDALGO – The Rio Grande Valley Vipers is appealing a jury’s decision to pay more than $250,000 to a fan who took part in a contest.

The case began in 2013 when the fan was challenged to shoot a three-pointer, as well as a half-court shot within 60 seconds.

Jose Solis says he completed this but the organization says he didn’t follow the contest rules.

“I was pretty sure I won my students knew I won vipers arguing I did not win. Video proves it,” says Solis.

He was promised a new Jaguar car worth $75,000.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas explains Solis and his attorneys were in court for six years trying to prove his case; the jury said the RGV Vipers committed fraud.  

The Vipers sent this statement which reads in part:

"The jury answered the question of fraud, but did not answer on the issue of breach of contest, which is the premise of the claim. As evidenced by the video of the contest, the plaintiff failed to properly execute the half-court shot by shooting the ball into the wrong hoop."
