A Rio Grande city man was jailed after he was found with a Pokémon card that was stolen from a McAllen store, according to the McAllen Police Department.

Jesus Abiel Peña was identified by police as the suspect in the theft investigation. Jail records show Peña was booked into the Hidalgo County jail on Monday on a theft charge. Bond was set at $3,000.

The theft was initially reported by Kaboom Games, located at 3521 N. 10th Street. The store made a post on Facebook saying the accused thief, now identified as Peña, reached into the display case and tried to “sneak off” with an $1,800 in Pokémon card.

Store owner Ramsey Ramirez said the theft happened on Saturday, and that the post was made to warn others.

“If you gotta catch 'em all, catch 'em all legally, please,” Ramirez said. “We have a ton of cameras and that we do look for things like this, and we do prosecute shoplifters because it does hurt us. We’re a small business just trying to get by. We need every sale that we can get… something like this could really put somebody out of business.”

Ramirez said the store is planning to buy more locks for their inventory.

Jail records show Peña was released from jail on Tuesday.
