The following school districts and institutions have canceled classes and all school activities for Friday, Aug. 25 through Sunday, Aug. 27.

The following are businesses and government offices that will be closed Friday due to the storm. 


  • All Cameron County public offices will be closed
  • Cameron County Driver's License Office
  • Tropical Texas Behavioral Health
  • Port of Brownsville
  • BPUB Offices
  • Su Clinica, all facilities (Friday and Saturday)
  • Sea Turtle, Inc.
  • Lone Star National Bank (SPI branch)
  • Valley Metro Public Bus Service will temporarily discontinue Route 50 (service to Port Isabel, Laguna Heights, and Laguna Vista) and Willacy County Demand Response Service as of Friday, Aug. 25 at 5:30 a.m.


  • Penitas City Hall and Library


  • Amigos del Valle: Canceled for Friday, will continue on Monday.
  • Animal Shelter: Closed until Monday.
  • Boat Ramp: Open for retrieval only; no launches recommended.
  • Chamber: Closed until Monday.
  • City Hall: Closed until 1:30 pm on Friday.
  • EMS: Open.
  • Fire Department: Open.
  • Galvan Park: Closed until 12:00 Noon Saturday.
  • Garbage Pickup: No pickup until next week.
  • Housing Authority: Closed until Monday.
  • Event Center: Closed until Monday.
  • Library: Closed until Monday.
  • Municipal Court: Closed until Monday.
  • Museums: Closed until Tuesday.
  • Police: Open.
  • Parks: Closed until 12:00 Noon Saturday.
  • Queen Isabella Causeway: Open, but subject to imminent closure once TS storm winds are sustained.
  • Recycling Center: Closed.
  • Schools: Closed on Friday.
  • Water District: Closed until Monday.
  • WAVE Bus: Closed on Friday.
  • Youth Center: Closed until Monday.
  • Port Isabel will be staffing its EOC Call Center. Numbers are 943-0719, 943-0713, 943-0793. Due to telephone company issues, these numbers do not rotate; if one number is busy, please call the next number. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. Non-emergency dispatch number is 943-1242.



Shelters will open at the Port Isabel Community Center (213 Yturria St.) and the Port Isabel Police Department/Municipal Court (110 W. Hickman St.). If you are in need of shelter, you should take water, snacks, bedding such as pillows and blankets. No alcohol or firearms allowed. ID is requested.

There are no other shelters opened at this time in the RGV.
