Over the weekend the Texas National Guard helped Starr County administer 109 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, as part of Gov. Greg Abbott's mobile vaccine pilot program.

Now, county health officials in Starr County are preparing for a long awaited shipment of 1300 Moderna COVID-19 vaccines, expected to arrive this week.

Starr County Memorial Hospital is set to receive 1,000 doses while Nuestra Clinica Del Valle will receive 100 and the Roma Family Health Clinic will get 200 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Starr County Judge Eloy Vera said the county will likely opened registration for the next mass vaccination event in the following days. He said people should keep a close eye on the county's webpage for updates regarding registration.

According to Vera, county health officials are revising the original waitlist for the vaccine, removing people who have already received a dose at other clinics across the Valley. Vera said as new spots become available, a pre-registration link will be accessible on the county's website and Facebook page.
