WESLACO – Across the Rio Grande Valley children are preparing for a night of fun.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends some simple tips to keep children safe this Halloween.

No matter how old children are, one parent should always go along with children as they trick-or-treat.

They also recommend everyone in the group should carry a flash-light so they're visible.

Discuss in advance the route they should follow and set a curfew.

Also remind them of traffic rules and stranger danger.

Parents should also make sure their child's costume fits properly and limit accessories that could increase their risk of getting hurt.

For the youngest trick or treaters, a consumer report suggests avoiding bulky or puffy costumes.
