Testimony was heard Tuesday during the first day of the trial against a Brownsville man charged with murder. 

Ernesto De Los Reyes was 19 years old when he was arrested on a murder charge in September 2023.

A news release from the Brownsville Police Department said officers at the scene saw De Los Reyes with the murder victim — identified as 20-year-old Rolando Reyna — in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Police said De Los Reyes stabbed Reyna in the parking lot following a verbal confrontation.

Jurors heard testimony from witnesses on Tuesday during the trial. The Brownsville Police Department previously said witnesses had told them De Los Reyes and Reyna were confrontational throughout the night.

De Los Reyes was still holding the knife used in the altercation when police arrived, police said.

Jurors also saw dash cam footage of the scene, where Reyna’s knife wound was shown.

The trial resumes Wednesday.
